Terms of Use
Last updated: 2026-08-13
1. The app
Folium is a local-first personal knowledge management application. It is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and noninfringement.
2. Your data
- You retain full ownership of all content you create with the app.
- Your content is stored locally on your device. You are responsible for your own backups. The app provides backup/export and optional sync (GitHub, iCloud, or Google Drive) features, but the authors are not liable for any data loss.
- If you enable sync, your use of the provider you chose (GitHub, Apple iCloud, or Google Drive) is governed by that provider’s own Terms of Service, and you are responsible for the remote location you sync to (including keeping it private if the content is sensitive).
3. Acceptable use
You may use the app for any lawful purpose. You may not use it to store or distribute content that is illegal in your jurisdiction.
4. Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the authors shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages — including loss of data — arising from your use of the app.
5. Third-party components
The app bundles third-party open-source components; their licenses are listed on the licenses page and apply to those components.
6. Changes
These terms may be updated; material changes will be noted in the CHANGELOG. Continued use of the app after an update constitutes acceptance.
